Expecting? You must be excited, anxious, you have a life growing inside you, he or she will be your friend, soul mate, best friend for the rest of your life,
you will laugh, you will cry together, you will do anything in your power to protect this tiny life growing inside you.
If you knew that the most dangerous place to be while pregnant is behind the wheel, or as a passenger in
a motor vehicle. What would you do? There is numerous evidence to prove that fact.
Studies reported in The Journal of the American Medical Association, states that “Motor vehicle crashes
account for four of five deaths that occur among unborn babies of pregnant women who experience
trauma”, another article in the same journal, states that “Information and Research Needed to Help
Reduce Risks to Women and Foetus From Motor Vehicle Injury During Pregnancy”.
It is simple, tiny babies are not meant to travel at high speeds and then come to a stop, by hitting onto a
seatbelt. Even at minimal speed, seatbelt will cause serious damage to your unborn child. Studies also
found that seatbelt can cause severe damage to the placenta (the organ that provide nourishment and take
away waste), which can result in the loss of your child.
Numerous tests and studies were conducted by leading US Obstetricians and Gynaecologists as to the
effect of motor vehicle crashes on pregnant women and their unborn baby, most results were shocking,
and in almost every report, the conclusion is more must be done to protect the mother and her unborn
child, even in a minor collision.
Three Australian engineers have been working to come up with a simple device that can address this
serious problem, and yet easy to use. They conducted many tests, made numerous prototypes, finally “Tummy Shield” was invented. It is made of carefully engineered high tensile stainless steel piece weighing nearly 4.5Kgs, and a cushion made of fire retardant high grade material, similar to those used in aeroplanes and some buses. “Tummy Shield” has undergone vigorous tests in some of Australia’s leading testing facilities, including crash tests at high speeds. It is tested to comply with ADR (Australian Design Rule) guidelines.
"Tummy Shield” is carefully designed to reduce the risk of injury to your baby and the placenta which is your baby’s life support. It is designed to redirect seat belt pressure away from the abdomen area to the thighs.
